Kumbilappam, a combination of rice flour, jaggery, spices and grated coconuts is a traditional sweet delicacy of Wayanad. Kumbilappam, wrapped in fragrant bay leaves, named as ‘kumbil’ in Malayalam is steamed during preparation.

Kumbilappam making process begins by soaking rice flour in water which is mixed with jaggery syrup and grated coconut. Aromatic spices like cardamom and cinnamon are added that add flavor. Then the mixture is filled into individual bay leaves and are folded into cone structures before being steamed. The final steamed kumbilappam is a sweet, soft and fragrant dumpling encased in delicate bay leaves.
